| Homeowners are eligible for a 30% of Qualifying Energy-efficient upgrades tax credit up to $1500. The requirements for windows & glass door are that the U-values AND Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) must be equal or less than 0.30. Atlantic Seaboard Corporation is proud to announce we have windows & doors that qualify for the U.S. Government’s New Energy Tax Credit Program!!! You are thinking - that it is fabulous that not only can you purchase a product from Atlantic Seaboard that you as a homeowner can be proud of and enjoy in many ways but also you can get a tax break doing such a project. Now that’s a bargain! Just in case you are wondering what is exactly a U-value and SHGC, we can explain. U-factor measures how well a product prevents heat from escaping also called rate of heat loss. It is expressed in units of BTU/h ft2 F. The lower the number, the better the performance of the window or door. U-factor takes into account more than conductivity. It also is affected by the airflow around the window and the emissivity of the glass. U-factor is not to be confused with R-value. R-value indicates the resistance to heat flow. It is the inversion of U-factor; therefore, also measures conductivity. The higher the number, the more energy efficient the product. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how well a window or glass door blocks heat from the sunlight. The SHGC is the fraction of the heat from the sun that enters through a window or glass door. The lower the SHGC, the less solar heat it transmits and the more energy-efficient it is. We hope this helps you understand U-factor and SHGC a little bit better. For more information, click here. |
